General Eligibility Requirements for University of Alberta

Candidates must meet the following base academic criteria for entrance scholarships and awards:

  • Present an admission average that meets or exceeds those required for the specific scholarship or award.
  • Be entering university directly from high school with fewer than 12 credits of university course work taken during high school or following time taken off between high school and university, provided that no post-secondary credit was received during that time.
  • Be entering the first year of full-time studies in an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta in September of the upcoming year.

Additional scholarship criteria may apply. Candidate eligibility for specific scholarships will be assessed based on their admission information and their scholarship application. University of Manitoba Scholarships

The University of Manitoba offers an exciting array of scholarships to recognize the achievements of recent high school graduates and to assist in financing their post-secondary studies. Each year, new students receive over $2.5 million in entrance scholarships.

Eligibility

All new UM students are considered for a wide range of entrance scholarships and awards. Most entrance scholarships are based on demonstrated academic excellence in the last one or two years of high school.

Simply by applying for admission to the University and submitting your transcripts, you will be considered for the University of Manitoba General Entrance Scholarships and more.

Other entrance scholarships, such as the BMO Financial Group Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships and the Schulich Leader Scholarships, require applications. Eligibility and application criteria vary for each entrance scholarship, so be sure to read the requirements carefully.

University of Manitoba International Undergraduate Student Entrance Scholarships

The International Undergraduate Student Entrance Scholarship was established to reward academic excellence by international students graduating from international high schools and entering studies at the University of Manitoba.

Scholarships will be offered to students who:

  • are international students (i.e. in Canada on valid study permits) who have applied for admission to any Faculty or School at the University of Manitoba by the deadline date of March 1;
  • are paying the international student tuition fee rates;
  • have achieved a minimum high school average of 85% based on the best five senior level academic courses from University of Manitoba approved General Entrance Scholarship list.

The value of each award is set each year in tiers based on high school grade averages. As an example, for the year 2020-2021 the award values were as follows:

  • Averages greater than or equal to 95% – $3,000
  • Averages greater than or equal to 90% – $2,000
  • Averages greater than or equal to 85% – $1,000

University of Manitoba International Undergraduate Student Scholarships

The International Undergraduate Student Scholarship was established to reward excellence in scholastic achievement by international students at The University of Manitoba.

Scholarships are offered to international students who:

  • are in Canada on valid study permits;
  • who have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours in any Faculty or School at the University of Manitoba;
  • show exceptional academic achievement on courses completed in the last regular academic session (minimum sessional grade point average of 3.5);
  • are continuing in the next consecutive year of full-time undergraduate study in their program during the Fall/Winter academic session.

Those meeting the above criteria will be ranked by sessional grade point average, and scholarships will be offered until all available funds are exhausted or the grade point standard is reached. Eligible recipients will be notified by the end of July.

University of Waterloo Scholarships

Scholarships allow University of Waterloo to celebrate and recognize your achievements. Entrance scholarships are available if you’re starting full-time first-year degree studies and are beginning university or college for the first time.

Scholarships are awarded primarily for academic and personal achievement. Bursaries, another type of assistance, are awarded based on financial need.

  • Most scholarships do not require an application, but there are some exceptions listed below.
  • Scholarships are normally awarded in mid-May once University of Waterloo receive updated grades from Ontario high schools. Details will be listed in your Waterloo Quest account starting in mid-May.

Guaranteed Entrance Scholarships

You will automatically be considered for a Guaranteed Entrance Scholarship when you apply for admission. These scholarships recognize your academic achievements and are awarded based on your admission average.

Eligibility:

You will be considered automatically for a Guaranteed Entrance Scholarship if you are:

  • a current high school (secondary) student who plans to come to USask after you graduate, or
  • a student who has already graduated from high school (secondary) but has little or no previous post-secondary education (less than 18 transferable credit units).

Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships

Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships are USask’s highest valued, renewable entrance scholarships and are awarded based on academics, leadership and contributions to school and community life.

Five of these awards, known as the Circle of Honour Awards, are designated for Indigenous students.

To be considered, complete your application for admission by December 1, and fill out and submit the online application for Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships in PAWS by December 15.

Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships include:

  • George and Marsha Ivany President’s First & Best Scholarships
    Value: $40,000 ($10,000/year over four years)
    One George and Marsha Ivany President’s First and Best Scholarship is a Circle of Honour award, which is preferentially awarded to an Indigenous student.

    Value: $30,000 ($7,500/year over four years)
    Two Chancellors’ Scholarships are Circle of Honour awards, which are preferentially awarded to Indigenous students.

    Two USask Entrance Scholarships are Circle of Honour awards, which are preferentially awarded to Indigenous students.
  • Edwards Undergraduate Scholarships
